Canalside homes in Tower Hamlets
Posted on 10 July 2023
London’s canals, whilst celebrated in certain pockets of the city, remain largely overlooked and underused elsewhere. In their neglect they offer a moment of peace and respite from the manicured parks of the city; acquiring a character of their own; graffitied, Victorian structures, unkempt overgrowth and passing ducklings. This is a key to their charm, a journey along a canal by foot, bike or barge tells the unexpected backstory to layers of London development that follows the historic passage of goods through the city.
If you take a walk along the Regent’s Canal from its source in Limehouse Basin towards Mile End, you will come across two recently completed housing schemes delivered by us for Tower Hamlets that add to this canalside tale. Together these projects will provide 50 new homes for social rent that bookend the Locksley Estate with generous steel balconies that nod to the Victorian engineering of the bridges and canal they overlook.
