This project comprises 51 flats for social rent across four brownfield sites in Bermondsey for Southwark Council.

At Rotherhithe New Road, 14 flats are provided adjacent to the elevated railway with commercial units on the ground floor. The building is articulated with brickwork and GRC relief patterned panels. Brick arches at ground floor read as a continuation of the arches of the neighbouring Southwark Park Station which closed in 1915, rooting the building in its context.

Abbeyfield is located on a prominent but highly constrained site at the base of Southwark Park. Materially and formally the building mirrors the historic Mission House three doors to the east, with chamfered corners and details in glazed brick and terracotta pigmented concrete.

Two of the developments are located on St. Saviour’s Estate, on Fendall Street and Maltby Street respectively. The buildings use differing plan arrangements to weave them into their specific condition within the estate but are unified through their use of material and detail. Plinth and parapet are expressed with fluted brickwork details, and the windows are framed in pleated glazed brick reveals which evoke the hanging hides of Bermondsey's historic tanneries.
